Bathroom guidance unit

3 Jun 2025

A wall-mounted device that uses depth sensing (no camera) to give simple spoken step-by-step guidance for toileting and hygiene tasks. Designed to support privacy and a sense of competence.

Person-centred considerations

The unit aims to support occupation and identity by enabling the person to complete familiar routines with minimal verbal intrusion once the sequence is known.

Open questions

Once the sequence is known, shorter prompts better preserve a sense of competence.

Further work needed on how much guidance is helpful versus intrusive, and on acceptance of depth-only sensing in intimate spaces.
