Compact transfer support

12 Mar 2025

A mobile aid intended for short indoor moves, primarily bed to toilet. The aim is to support sit-to-stand and limited transport while the person retains as much control and independence as possible.

Person-centred considerations

Drawing on Kitwood’s model, the concept prioritises identity and occupation over full automation. The person initiates movement and remains active in the transfer rather than being passively lifted.

Open questions

How much physical securing is compatible with a sense of control and identity during a short transfer?

Further exploration needed around acceptable levels of support, the role of voice or remote control, and whether the device should return to a last-known position.
